Chocolate is probably one of the best treats in the world.
That’s probably why you find chocolate in everything that tastes amazing and sweet—from pastries, brownies, cupcakes to hot chocolate and cereal. Kids and adults love chocolate just as much.
But, can you share this sweet treat with your kitty?
While some human foods are completely safe for your cat, others aren’t so much. So, it is a good idea to look up the foods before giving them to your feline friend.
In this blog post, I will answer the question, “Can I give my cat chocolate?” in as much detail as possible.
Let’s begin.
Safe or Not: Can Can I Give My Cat Chocolate?
No, chocolate is unsafe for cats to consume.
In fact, you should keep your kitty as far from chocolates as you possibly can because it is toxic to cats as it is to dogs. It contains theobromine which out lovely pets are sensitive to.
Large amounts of chocolate consumption can even cause death in some kitties.
If your kitty has ingested some chocolate, you should look out for the following symptoms:
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Drinking excessively
- Hyperactivity
- Pacing
- Shaking
You should rush your cat to an emergency vet center immediately if you see any of the symptoms I have mentioned above. Your vet may start an IV and even pump your kitty’s stomach to ensure that she doesn’t digest more of the chocolate.
Prevention is better than cure. So, it is always a good idea to keep the chocolates as far away from your kitty’s paws as possible.
